Still, we think
by hand.

— an iPad sketchbook for people who think in analog
FOR ARCHITECTURAL STUDY ONLY

However digital design gets, studies still want to be analog.

Esquisse is built only for the thinking that happens before CAD. Just a pencil, tracing paper, and a plan grid — with the pencil grain, the paper tooth, even the scratching sound. A tool for thinking by hand.

MANIFESTO

The first line is always
drawn by hand.

We have CAD, BIM, AI. Computers draft our drawings, and a render farm can produce ten schemes overnight. And yet — the idea itself is still born from the hand.

Wander on paper, erase, draw again. Throw trace over the last scheme and go over it with a soft pencil. The stray lines and eraser marks are all part of the idea. That back-and-forth is what grows a design. If you design, you know this.

Esquisse brings that time back to the iPad. Instead of adding clever features, we spent our time making the pencil behave like a pencil. It is a tool for people who want to think in analog.

SPECIFICATIONS

Only the tools you need.

Everything required for design study. Nothing else.

I.

Pencil

Pressure for tone, tilt to shade with the side of the lead. Stroke taper, paper tooth, even the scratch. Flick the scale ruler and it spins like a fidget spinner — good company while you think.

II.

Tracing paper

One tap throws on a sheet of yellow trace — it lands slightly askew, just like the real roll. Stack, see through, compare. This is the heart of Esquisse.

Plan grid

Your regional module — US 16″/24″ o.c., EU 600/300, or Japanese 910. Metric and US scales. True-to-scale display lets you put a real ruler on the glass.

IV.

Area take-off

Tap inside a room you drew and Esquisse reads its real area off the scale, right on the sheet — switch or combine m², tsubo, tatami and ft². Partitions and notes inside are counted to centerline.

Paper & markers

Kent, rough drawing paper, kraft, or black. The tooth changes with the sheet. Alcohol markers sink in only where strokes overlap.

VI.

A working tool

One sketchbook per project. Trace over drawings and site photos as underlays. Share as PDF, image, or Esquisse file; print with AirPrint.

NIGHT STUDY

White pencil, black paper.

For studies late at night with the lights down. Switch the paper to black and let a white pencil do the talking.
